Facebook promises not to use its product to influence the US presidential election

F8 Mark Zuckerberg
Despite some not-so-subtlepolitical jabs from CEO Mark Zuckerberg about Donald Trump, Facebook won't use its power to try to sway the upcoming US presidential election — even if some employees within the company wonder whether it should.
Each week Facebook holds an internal Q&A for employees with Zuckerberg, and the topics are determined by the results of an internal survey. Gizmodo got hold of the questions submitted for the weekly Q&A in early March, one of which was: "What responsibility does Facebook have to help prevent President Trump in 2017."
We don't know what Facebook or Zuckerberg said in response to the question during the Q&A.
But when reached for comment about the question, a Facebook representative told Business Insider:
Voting is a core value of democracy and we believe that supporting civic participation is an important contribution we can make to the community. We encourage any and all candidates, groups, and voters to use our platform to share their views on the election and debate the issues. We as a company are neutral — we have not and will not use our products in a way that attempts to influence how people vote.
Facebook's response is an acknowledgement of just how powerful the social network's Timeline has become. And it's worth noting that the company has gotten in trouble for manipulating what appears in its users' news feeds in the past.
As part of an experiment in 2012, data scientists at Facebook deleted all of the positive or negative comments from over 600,000 people's feeds for an entire week in order to see how it affected their moods. Facebook later apologized for the psychological experiment, noting that things should have been "done differently."

10 Tips for Becoming a Better Husband

How can we be more patient towards our wife? More thoughtful? More loving? You can’t control your wife’s actions, but work on you and trust the rest will take care of itself.
Here are 10 tips for becoming a better husband:
1. Every day, aim one “random act of kindness” at your spouse: Plan for it, write down what you’re going to do, then check the deed off once it’s done. Odds are, being deliberate in this way will lead naturally to more.
2. Talk openly about your finances: Money surprises are never good, so stay a few steps ahead and include your wife in an ongoing conversation about the budget. This does not mean monitoring her spending. It does mean that you don’t keep secrets, you value her input, and you make important decisions as a team.
3. Make the effort to find out more about your wife:
– Do you know her favorite band?
– What books did she read last year/is she reading now?
-Where would she like to go if you had a three-day weekend?
– What restaurant she’s been dying to visit?
– Ask good questions, and then listen.
4. Try some creative/imaginative ways to tell your wife how much you love her: Don’t assume she knows. Even if she does know, hearing it from you will spark the fire. Before long you’ll realize that you love her more. Here are some tips:
– Slip a card or love note into her purse at the beginning of the day.
– Figure out obscure anniversaries (first date, engagement day, the day we moved into our first house etc.) and then make a big deal of celebrating together.
– Leave loving answering machine messages when you know she’s not going to be there.
– Make the bed and put a single rose on her pillow.
– Run a bubble bath for her and keep the house interruption-free while she enjoys it.
– Color a gaudy sign and put it on the windshield of her car.
5. Plan some fun: It doesn’t have to be expensive.
– Putt-putt
– Midnight bowling
-A late night walk on the beach
– Game-night (Scrabble, Monopoly, Apples to Apples) and ice cream
– Use your imagination.
6. Make note of your TV watching habits, and then cut your “tube-time” in half: Use the extra time to do something for or with your wife. Take a look at other media usage too – what does it say about your priorities in terms of relationships?
7. Make a list of the five things you’re most passionate about and where you invest most of your free time:If your wife is not number one on that list, then consider what steps you might take to make sure she is.
8. Confide in some friends: Make sure they’re friends who are in a relationship with some “spark.” Ask for their support and encouragement; exchange ideas.
9. Be deliberate about being positive: Take a look at your interactions with your wife: What percentage are confrontational? How often are you fighting? Do you tell one another jokes? What’s the ratio of purely informational dialogue to talking that advances the relationship? Now make a concerted effort to initiate positive, intimate, redemptive conversations. Learn a new joke every day if you have to; the point is to be proactive, not reactive.
10. Try counseling: OK, I know this sounds intense, but think of it as a 30,000-mile tune-up. Tell your wife you’re looking for ways to be a better husband, and that you want to work on moving forward, all the time. This could involve a few weekly appointments, a marriage enrichment seminar, a couples group at your faith-community, or any number of other intentional interventions.

GOD GIVES YOUR MOTHER AND SHE TAKE ON YOU SINCE UA A KID

JUST SAY THANKS GOD FOR GIVING ME A KINDNESS MOTHER...................................

5 Ways to Prepare Young Athletes for Success in Sports and in Life

It’s a challenging time to be a parent. The fact that I’m not even a parent yet and I know that speaks volumes.
You see, at the end of my own personal youth athletics career, I went directly to a career in coaching young athletes – and I’ve been there for well over a decade now. To give you a little idea of how times have changed since I was a high school athlete:

1. Never overreact - or underreact.
Sports are games, and games are supposed to be fun. If a kid works his butt off, but the outcome isn’t what he’d hoped for, you should talk about the value in the process rather than dwelling on the target destination he didn’t reach. Crack jokes to lighten the mood, and then try to find a learning experience in losing, as opposed to just reaming a kid out and then sitting in silence for the rest of the ride home. In my experience, parents and coaches who overreact and take the fun out of the game are the single most common reason kids give up a sport.
Underreacting can be equally problematic. The process is definitely more important than the destination, but if a kid doesn’t take the process seriously, he should hear about it – just like if he ignores his homework or refuses to take out the trash. If he is rude to a coach or umpire, doesn’t hustle, shows up late to practice, or poorly handles something that is 100% within his control, he should be disciplined for it. Blindly siding with your kid when he misbehaves or is lazy sets a very dangerous precedent, but it also puts a coach in a very uncomfortable situation of having to discipline your kid because you haven’t.

2. Watch competition, but not practice.
When kids play while parents are watching, they are much less outgoing. However, take the parents away, and they’ll let their guards down, make new friends, and try things they otherwise wouldn’t attempt. This is a big part of both physical and social development. When parents stick around to watch practice/training – even if it’s with wildly supportive intentions – kids won’t come out of their shell. Sports are a great way to teach kids to “roll” with different social circles, and it’s important for them to get this experience without helicopter parents interfering.
By all means, go to game and cheer kids on, but don’t stick around to watch practice. As an added bonus, you avoid the possibility of a coach looking over his shoulder the whole time as he wonders whether you’re second-guessing him.  Every coach dreads the parent who wants to live vicariously through his kid, so the more space you give your child, the less likely you are to be perceived like that.

3. Have your kid play multiple sports.
We’ve been telling folks for years now that early sports specialization doesn’t work as well as people think. Kids are more likely to get injured, and they miss out on a well-rounded sports experience that fosters better athleticism and social interactions over the long haul. However, to supplement this assertion, I’d encourage you to check out this fantastic post from Elsbeth Vaino:Does Early Specialization Help? Elsbeth found that 82% of the top athletes from the four major sports in the U.S. actually played multiple sports. Yes, you read that right – and it is verified by my experience with hundreds of professional athletes each year. Here's a great interview with Blake Griffin that Elsbeth posted:

4. Encourage play, not always practice/competition.
Even when the sport in question remains constant, play is different than practice, as it is far less regimented, and there is far more quality movement because there are fewer stoppages for teaching. It also presents a far richer proprioceptive environment and greater opportunity for social development. Kids need to play more – and in a variety of disciplines. Adolescent athletes need practice. Kids don’t need more competition, though; our modern athletic society already plenty of that.

5. Don’t allow kids to get desensitized to losing.
With more and more tournaments being round robin and double elimination formats, I think we have a generation of kids who has been desensitized to losing. It’s even worse when you have kids who play on multiple teams, as losing for Team A doesn’t matter because Team B has a game less than 24 hours later.
Losing is part of life, but that doesn’t mean that we should be satisfied with it. It should motivate us to work harder so that it doesn’t happen again. This doesn’t just apply to sports, either; it applies to life. As a business owner, I don’t ever plan to hire someone who is comfortable with sucking.
As a little example, my sophomore year of high school, I lost a tennis match in the state singles qualifier to a kid I should have beaten 100% of the time. It was an all-day event with several rounds on a hot day in May, and I cramped up badly in the third set of the match because I hadn’t hydrated well. That loss stung for months – but you can bet that I never forget to bring enough fluids to matches ever again. I beat the guy easily in straight sets the following year, too. Losing sucks, but it teaches you lessons.

Plot Challenge of the Week

temple-citadel-arena
So, I’ve been teaching a class on leadership in missions, and this happens to be a class full of Pentecostals (literally… there is one student who is not Pentecostal in this class). The class actually shows the range of the Pentecostal church ranging from very literate, well-thought out, reasonable argument to off-the-wall crazy talk (I had one student explain to me that Protestantism and Pentecostalism are different religions, that all Evangelicals are Pentecostals, and that Baptists are a third different religion completely separate from Protestants and Pentecostals).

I also find it interesting that the vast majority of the class is Pentecostal since, at the moment, the fastest growing and generally dominant Christian denomination in Latin America, Africa, and Asia is the Pentecostal denomination.
That being said, the topic of miraculous gifts, and especially tongues, has come up multiple times throughout the class. The primary scriptures used to support Pentecostal teachings on tongues (and miraculous gifts in general) is 1 Corinthians 12 and 14.
I was rereading 1 Corinthians 14 today in my devotions and the thing that struck me about this chapter is how heavily Paul emphasizes order. First, he speaks primarily of prophecy (which he defines as edification, exhortation, and consultation) and he compares it to tongues.

Paul’s primary argument in the first half of the passage is that prophecy is superior to tongues because prophecy edifies the body by engaging the spirit and the mind of the church as a whole while tongues engages only the spirit of the individual.
Further, in the second half of the chapter Paul then emphasizes that both prophecy and tongues are to be used in the church in anorderly manner.

He sets forth specific rules as to how they are to be used, and commands those who cannot obey these rules to remain silent. I find it interesting just how much of the modern Pentecostal church ignores this section of the chapter almost entirely. Anyway, I have a plot challenge for you today. I’m going to give you a picture and I want you to develop a part of your world based on what you see. It should be a setting that is believable in your world, and that has potential for stories in it. Here’s you’re picture:

KNOW ABOUT PREGNANCY

All you need - from popular baby names, pregnancy health and care, safe foods for pregnancy, and your baby's movements, right through to birth

Pregnant woman getting a kiss on the hand from her partner

Your essential pregnancy to-do list: first trimester

The first weeks and months of pregnancy are exciting, and exhausting! Our to-do list will help you to get your pregnancy off to a great start. You can tick off each item on the list, or just use it as a guide. Do whatever feels right for you.

1. Arrange your first appointment with your midwife

Once you have told your GP or midwifery clinic that you are pregnant, you will need to book your first appointment with a midwife

The timing of your first official antenatal appointment, called your booking appointment, depends on where you live. You should have your booking appointment by the time you are between 10 weeks and 12 weeks pregnant.

Your booking appointment may last up to two hours. During the appointment, your midwife will:

  • Ask about your medical history and your lifestyle.
  • Give you information about how to look after yourself during pregnancy, such as how to eat healthily and exercise safely.
  • Take your blood pressure.
  • Measure your height and ask you to weigh yourself. Your midwife will use these measurements to calculate your body mass index.

2. Take a daily folic acid supplement

Start taking a daily folic acid supplement straight away. Folic acid is an essential nutrient that protects your baby against brain and spinal cord problems such as spina bifida

You need a 400 microgram (mcg) supplement of folic acid (vitamin B9). You can buy these over the counter from pharmacies or supermarkets.

As well as folic acid, you'll need to take a supplement containing 10mcg of vitamin D every day. You can take a pregnancy multivitamin, but it's no substitute for eating a balanced diet.

3. Check before taking medicines

You need to be careful about taking medicines, even over-the-counter ones. They may be harmful to your unborn baby.

That's not to say you can't have a remedy if you're unwell. But to be on the safe side, check with your doctor, midwife or pharmacist before taking medicine.

4. If you smoke, try to quit

If you smoke during pregnancy, apart from the dangers to your health, you're more at risk of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. The smoke you inhale can affect how your unborn baby grows, resulting in him having a low birth weight

If you need help to give up, talk to your midwife or doctor. They'll be able to put you in touch with your local stop-smoking support scheme. You can also call the free and confidential NHS Pregnancy smoking helpline on 0800 169 9169.

Go to our quit smoking section for information and support about quitting.

5. Cut out alcohol

There is no way to know for sure how much alcohol is safe during pregnancy. That's why most experts advise you to cut out alcohol completely while you're expecting.

If you do decide to drink alcohol while you are pregnant, try to wait until after the first trimester. During the first 12 weeks, alcohol is associated with a higher risk of miscarriage. Even after this, don't drink more than one or two units of alcohol, once or twice a week.

6. Cut down on caffeine

You can still enjoy a cup of coffee during your pregnancy. But you should limit yourself to 200mg of caffeine a day, which is two cups of instant coffee or one cup of brewed coffee.

If you regularly have more than 200mg of caffeine a day during your pregnancy, it could increase your risk of miscarriage

This 200mg limit includes all sources of caffeine, so as well as coffee you'll need to count teas (including green tea), cola, energy drinks and chocolate.

7. Learn what to eat and what not to eat

A healthy, balanced diet will make sure that you get all the nutrients you and your developing baby need. Check out our having-a-baby diet and get yourself into good eating habits at this stage in your pregnancy.

Bear in mind that you don't need extra calories in your first trimester. You'll need to avoid certain foods in pregnancy, because they might contain bacteria, parasites or toxins that could harm your baby. This includes some cheeses and unpasteurised dairy products, raw or undercooked eggsliver and pate, and raw shellfish.

8. Get relief from pregnancy sickness

Most mums-to-be suffer from sickness during their first trimester. To ease your nausea, eat little and often. Try to work out which foods suit you and which make you feel more queasy.

Snacking on plain biscuits, crackers or breadsticks may help. Your sickness should ease between 12 weeks and 14 weeks

If you are vomiting many times a day and are unable to keep anything down, contact your doctor or midwife as soon as possible. You may have severe morning sickness, known as hyperemesis gravidarum.

9. Learn the danger signs

There are some pregnancy symptoms that you should never ignore. As your uterus grows you may feel mild cramps in your tummy and the odd twinge. Always check with your midwife if you are experiencing cramps, just in case.

If you have cramps with bleeding, seek medical help immediately. Your GP, midwife, or your hospital's early pregnancy unit (EPU) are there to help you.

10. Get as much rest as you can

It is common to feel tired or even exhausted during the first trimester. This is because your body is getting used to rapidly changing hormone levels. Get as much rest as you can, although this can be hard if you're working

Try to get to bed early at least one night a week. Even if you can't sleep until much later, relaxing with a book or soft music will help you to unwind. Turn off your phone and forget about work. Once your baby arrives, sleep will be so precious. So enjoy it while you can.

11. Get ready to see your baby

In most cases, where there are no problems, your first ultrasound scan will be your dating scan. This scan takes place between 10 weeks and 13 weeks plus six days of pregnancy.

During your dating scan, the sonographer will put gel on your tummy and move a hand-held device, called a transducer, over your skin. You'll then be able to see your baby. The sonographer will check your baby's heartbeat and tell you when your baby is due.

12. Decide when to announce your pregnancy

Some women spill the beans to friends, family, and colleagues right away. Others wait until they're in their second trimester. By your second trimester, your bump becomes more obvious and the risk of miscarriage falls dramatically.

But if you're experiencing complications, or if your job is strenuous or potentially dangerous, you may need to reveal you're pregnant sooner.

13. Do gentle exercise

Regular gentle exercise can help you to cope with the physical and mental demands of being pregnant. You'll also find it easier to manage your weight gain if you stay active.

Read more about how exercise can help you during pregnancy and learn which exercises are best for you to do.

14. Do chores safely

Be cautious when using household chemicals and cleaning products. Wear gloves and avoid direct contact with products that have strong fumes and strong warning labels. When you're cleaning, keep your windows open and try not to use products in aerosol cans

Think about whether being pregnant will affect your job, especially if you work with x-rays or chemicals, or have a strenuous job.

15. Start doing pelvic floor exercises

Pelvic floor exercises can help to protect you from leaking urine while you're pregnant and after your baby is born. If you haven't been shown how to do pelvic floor exercises during your antenatal appointments, ask your midwife about them at your next visit.

By starting now you will get into good habits for the remainder of your pregnancy.

Top 15 Most Expensive Shoes in the World

Shoes are probably the most underrated things ever. When we say shopping, the first thing that comes up in the mind is clothes- trendy and fashionable. Shoes come secondary in our list. But they dominate a huge part of our wardrobe. We were introduced to fashionable shoes right from our childhood days when we read Cinderella. Yes, our fairy tales books showed different pictures of the famous shoe that the Prince came with to find Cinderella, but one thing was common in all such publications- the pair of shoes was beautiful! It had to be. Somewhere in all those years of growing up, we have fancied fashionable stilettos, pumps, wedges and now when we are grown up enough to be able to wear them, we just cannot have enough of them. Every other pair of shoes seems pretty and we want to own them right away. For guys its all about the toughness and smartness it adds to their macho-ness. All said and done, this list will blow your mind with its collection of the 15 most expensive shoes in the world. Yes, they are beautiful and make us want to be the proud of one such pair. We wish we could!

Care of the injured

Nurse Asmaa adjusts the blood supply for a 16 year old girl who suffered massive injuries in the shelling in Lebanon
For every person dying as a result of injury, there are hundreds more that sustain non-fatal injuries and other health consequences. Although the ultimate goal must be to prevent injuries from happening in the first place, much can be done to minimize the disability and ill-health arising from the injuries that do occur despite the best prevention efforts.
Providing quality support and care services to victims is therefore an essential component of any response to intentional and unintentional injuries. Appropriate services for victims of non-fatal injuries can prevent future fatalities, reduce the amount of short-term and long-term disability, and help those affected to cope with the impact of the injury event on their lives.

Most Dangerous Cities in the World

Europe may very well be the safest continent in the world, considering that none of its cities appear in the World’s Most Dangerous Cities ranking. However, there are still some cities on the Old Continent that one should be careful about when visiting.
One such city is Rotterdam in the Netherlands. This city tops the chart for European lack of safety. Poland’s Lodz takes second while Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom occupies the third position in the European city danger rankings.
Actual crime rates and perceptions are completely different things. Several official polls have been carried out to assess where people don’t feel safe in Europe. The cities where people felt most secure were Oviedo and Groningen, while residents of Athens (Greece), Istanbul (Turkey), Sofia (Bulgaria) and Bucharest (Romania) felt the most endangered.
Do wealth and standards of living have anything to do with security? Crime statistics do suggest that poverty and murder prevalence could be linked to each other, and some of the world’s most dangerous places are indeed located within countries plagued by political turbulence, corruption, low standards of living and economic underdevelopment. Hopefully, figures for all of these dangerous cities will decline in years to come.
